Always be learning:

Always be learning.

Had our family over for dinner as my sister is leaving tomorrow for her master's at Columbia.

Was making pizza when my grandma stopped to watch me.

Started separating out the dough, putting on the tomato sauce and adding some toppings when she stopped to watch me.

She said something that stuck with me.

‘I’m watching you to learn. You can always learn something.’

This is a woman who’s cooked for over 60 years and has made pizza hundreds of times for my cousins.

Yet here she was looking to me as an inspiration for how to be better.

For how to improve her pizza-making skills.

I learned from one of my parent’s friends that you’re not supposed to roll out the pizza dough because it gets rid of the air bubbles, which you want to keep.

Explained that to my grandma and her face lit up.

‘I never knew that. That’s good to know for the future.’

A woman who brought me up is learning how to make pizza from me, a total amateur who’s made pizza a handful of times in his life.

Goes to show you that no matter what situation, even when you’ve been an expert your whole life, you can always learn something.

Always be learning.
