Dec.4.23 - Day 1893 - Communicating in conflict

Communicate. Be upfront. Be honest. Don’t make assumptions. Listen to what a person has to say before jumping to conclusions. Focus on the problem at hand, not a million problems in the past that have already happened. Don’t blow situations out of proportion because of a miscommunication because it benefits no one. Everyone has too much pride. Swallow yours and admit when you’ve made a mistake. Don’t hide from it. Own it. Be upfront. People respect those who take responsibility for their actions, not those who deflect and blame someone else. Hear people out. Let them tell you their story. Often times intentions get assumed when people don’t really mean anything. Take a deep breath when you feel yourself getting angry or upset. Come backt o the current situation at hand, not past situations or future what if scenarios. The goal of a conflict is to come to a resolution, not continue to exacerbate the problem. Stop being defense and accept your fault for the situation as well. All of us have a role to play in conflict even when you don’t feel like you did anything wrong. Understand all sides and figure out the best way to move forward together. You can only do that by communicating.
