Do it because you love it, not because of anything else:

Do it because you love it, not because of anything else.

Watched an interview with Yes Theory on the Colin and Samir podcast recently.

Yes Theory has been my favourite Youtube group for years.

I discovered them when they had under 10 thousand subscribers as they were completing Project 30 and it resonated with me so much.

4 dudes from around the world met in Canada and decided after university they didn’t want to follow the traditional path so they set out to do something different.

Now with 7+ million subscribers, a successful clothing brand and a global community, they’ve created something incredible. They’ve inspired me so much that I have a tattoo of their logo on my arm as a reminder to seek discomfort every day.

In the podcast episode, they talked about the ups and downs of being a creator.

Most people when they start creating are doing it for some external reason.

To get famous, to get views, to build a brand, to impress their families, etc.

Eventually, all of those disappear and it's just you and a blank screen.

Are you still willing to do it? Even if no one watches it?

That’s when you know you have something.

As I began writing, I realized I loved doing this even if no one paid attention. And no one has paid attention. My friends and family have barely read anything I’ve done.

This is how I know I’m onto something.

If I ever create something great, I’ll have to remind myself to stick to the basics.

Write because you love it, not because people are following you.

Numbers, views, likes and followers get old very quickly.

That should be is a barometer of value, but even chasing that is a fools errand.

Just because 1 person or 10 million people watch you should not change the way you value yourself.

Your definition of success needs to be personal. Success to me is creating as much as I can while I’m on this earth while providing as much value as possible.

If that comes with external things, great. If it doesn’t, great.

If you want to create, do it because you love it, not because of anything else.
