Friends are just strangers you haven’t met yet:

Friends are just strangers you haven’t met yet.

Heard that this weekend from a friend.

Was visiting him in Denver.

Met him once last year on Summit.

We connected and stayed in touch since then.

Told him a few months back my sister wanted to do a grad trip in the mountains, and he said come through.

Was an epic weekend.

Good food, good drinks, good vibes and good people.

But he said this line to me at the club.

‘Friends are just strangers you haven’t met yet.’

That’s a bar.

First heard it from Yes Theory a few years back.

And it’s so true.

If you’re open, you can meet a lot of people.

Some you’ll want to keep around.

Others you’ll need to let go.

But don’t be afraid of meeting new people.

Of making new friends.

Of smiling and saying hello to someone.

Complimenting them on their look.

Learned that a lot this weekend.

My friend had someone who was visiting at the same time.

This charismatic former banker turned TV show creator.

He brought up a line that sticks out.

‘I’ve started complimenting people when they have something cool going on.’

What an amazing piece of insight.

If you start an interaction with sharing your appreciation for someone based on how they look, they’ll remember that for a long time.

People love compliments from others, especially strangers.

You never know when that could lead somewhere.

It’s the story of how my friend and I met.

I complimented him on his epic cowboy hat and we had tequila shots.

Who knew over a year later I’d go visit him with my sister and have one hell of a weekend.

So next time you’re out, at a bar or talking to a stranger, don’t be afraid to talk to them.

Compliment them.

They just might turn into a friend for life.
