Let Them Doubt You

Let them doubt you:

Let them doubt you.

Let the haters hate.

Let people not believe in your dreams.

They don’t know what you know.

They’re not willing to put in the work you’re willing to.

Was speaking to a friend today about the next steps in my life. I’m starting to get bored at work because I feel like I’m plateauing so I’m now considering a career change.

Nothing’s been put in action yet but I have a few ideas:

1. Go back to school and get an MBA. Sell-out and go the classic finance route.

2. Stay where I am.

3. Work for a start-up.

4. Become a media titan.

Obviously I’ve been preparing the last year as if the last one is going to happen, but haven’t made the full time jump yet for a lot of reasons.

As I was speaking to him and laying out my plan, all I could hear was negativity.

‘It’s so hard to be a content creator. It’s hard to do it consistently. It’s hard to get people to pay for your stuff.’

No shit Sherlock.

Just because something is hard doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it.

If you’re excited by the opportunity in front of you, keep going.

Go into the hard experiences. Challenge yourself.

Challenge your idea of what you believe you can accomplish because it’s all in your head.

Just because someone offered their negative opinion of your life doesn’t mean you need to listen to them. They’re just one person and one opinion.

Even if everyone on the planet said your idea sucked, who cares.

They’re not living your life. You are. You get to decide what you want to do. As long as you’re happy doing what you’re doing, other people’s opinions don’t matter.

That’s a very hard place to get to because we constantly have other people’s voices inside our heads telling us we’re not good enough.

Other people doubt us all the time.

Stop listening to them.

Listen to you.

Listen to your mind. Do the work to really understand yourself and figure out what you really enjoy.

So what if you have to take a step back in other people’s eyes?

So what if you don’t live up to the idea your parents had of you?

So what if your friends talk behind your back and doubt you?

They’re not living your life.

You are.

Get comfortable with who you are and what you want.

Let them doubt you.
