Spend on memories, not materials:

Spend on memories, not materials.

Material items will not make you happy.

Memories with those you love will.

Flew to London to watch the FA cup semi-fiinal between Liverpool, my childhood team, and Manchester City, two of the best soccer teams in the world, at Wembley Stadium with 4 of my best friends from university.

Got to Wembley, had 3 pints before the game, 1 during, and many more after. Started in the afternoon and didn’t finish till the sun was coming up the next morning.

It was one of the most epic days I’ve had in a long time.

It will be a memory my friends and I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Could I have spent less money and not broken my bank account?

Absolutely.

But I have no regrets at all.

My grandmother told me something during the pandemic that’s stuck with me.

I was talking to her about moving home, saving all my money and investing it in the market.

But she shot back and said ‘Anish, you need to spend money. If you only save money for the rest of your life and don’t enjoy yourself while you’re doing it, what’s the point?’

She’s right.

Money saved in the bank is great for the future, but if you have an opportunity within your budget to create memories with those you love, make that choice every time.

On your deathbed, you’ll never remember what you bought or how much you saved but you’ll remember the experiences you had with those you love.

Create more of those.

In this social media world, we’re trying to show people we don’t care about how much we have materially. No one cares and if they do more than the moments you share with them, you don’t need them.

Material items come and go. There will always be another shirt, purse or pair of shoes that everyone wants.

But you can’t recreate memories with those you love.

Spend on memories, not materials.
