The speed of joy:
The speed of joy.
Martin Short.
A legend.
A comedy legend.
For those who don’t, please yourself a favour and go watch the Netflix documentary on him (here).
So fun.
So funny.
First discovered him years ago.
On one of the late-night talk shows.
Used to be obsessed with late-night TV.
Watched all the interviews.
Was more up to speed on pop culture than most for 6 years.
I knew all of it.
Followed all of it.
Obsessed with celebrity culture.
Who was dating who.
Which movies were out.
Which TV shows.
But the best guest, hands down, on every late-night show was Martin Short.
He was hilarious.
Quick.
Fast.
Funny.
Physical comedy.
Great voices.
He was a comedic genius.
Then he came out with Jiminy Glick.
If you want a good laugh, watch this
And this.
I remember going through a phase during Covid.
And he was incredible.
So smart.
So funny.
So different.
His documentary does a fantastic job of telling that.
Of sharing his story.
Of how he persisted.
How he dealt with death.
Dealt with loss.
Especially with those close to him at a young age.
But he kept going.
Kept working.
Used their memory as fuel.
Fuel to keep living his authentic self.
His funny self.
So much to learn from a guy like him.
You need to laugh.
To smile.
To dance.
To make people laugh.
To not take life so seriously.
You need to build a family.
Find a great life partner.
Someone who understands you.
Then share those with friends.
Close friends.
Invest in your friends.
Spend time with them.
Cherish them.
Then have fun.
Make sure to have fun.
Smile.
Laugh.
Dance.
Play.
Never take yourself too seriously.
Enjoy the ride.
Enjoy the moments.
Find joy in every day.
Thank you Marty.
Thank you for being a shining light.
For being yourself.
You’re an inspiration to everyone.
No one can ever be like you.
Someone who operates at the speed of joy.
