Always something to watch

Always something to watch.

Or scroll.

Or see on our phones.

These devices have become us.

An extension of us.

They’re not external to us.

They are us.

The world showed back to us the way we want it.

All controlled by algorithms.

Dictated by a tiny few located in California.

How we see the world is decided by those who control the algorithms.

Who control the flow of information.

Who control what we can and cannot see.

They’ve taken over.

Originally it was the radios.

Those who controlled it had ultimate power.

See what Hitler did to control the German mind.

Then it was television.

A few channels controlled by those in power.

Showing you what they wanted you to see.

It gave people opportunity.

It gave people perspective.

It gave people something different.

But it also distracted them.

It pulled them away.

It pulled them into the digital world.

Some people got lost in it.

Made careers out of it.

While others let their life go by.

They let their time be eaten up by it.

Days passed.

Then months.

Then years.

All of a sudden they woke up in the exact place.

With nothing to show for it.

Then it was the smartphone.

Thanks Steve.

The phone changed everything.

The smartphone did one better.

It took talking to people across the world.

To seeing them directly on your screen.

From being present.

To having you glued to it 24/7.

Now you can’t get away.

It’s always there.

Always distracting.

Always keeping you hooked.

Distracting you with the next celebrity gossip story.

Or funny dog meme.

Or interesting bit of news.

You’re always connected.

Always on.

Never off.

Always distracted.

Never present.

They’ve taken over.

With it, social media.

Social media is the news.

It’s how the world gets the news.

Goodbye radio.

Goodbye TV.

Hello Twitter, Facebook and Youtube.

These things are good for us, right?

Always teaching us.

Connecting us with our friends.

Showing us what’s happening around the world.

But are they?

Do we feel closer to people?

Or more distant?

Do you feel more educated?

Or more distracted?

Do you feel like you know what’s going on in the world?

Or is your algorithm just showing you things to terrify you?

Here’s the dirty little secret.

You are the product.

Your brain is the resource.

Your attention is what they’re after.

Because of shareholder value, they will never stop.

Never stop keeping you on the platform.

Selling your attention to the highest bidder.

They’re advertising companies.

Not social companies.

Not media companies.

Advertisers are their customers.

Not you.

Their goal is to distract you.

While they sell you ads.

While they make more and more money.

They want to keep you on the platform as long as possible.

Modify the algorithm to show you what you want.

They’re monitoring everything.

What you see.

How long you spend time on it.

Where your eyes go.

While their algorithms work in the background to give you more it.

Social media algorithms run the world.

Those who control it are our puppet masters.

Controlling what we can and cannot see.

What we can and cannot believe.

What we can and cannot think.

Be careful what you look at.

Be careful what you let into your brain.

Be careful what ideologies your algorithm is showing to you.

Social media is cheap cocaine for the masses.

It’s free, right?

But with it, you’re losing you.

Get out of the matrix

Get out of the endless distraction.
