Anything is possible

Thoughts after watching the Dawn Wall

Anything is possible:

Anything is possible.

KG screamed those words out the day he won his first championship.

A saying that’s burned in my head since that moment.

Every so often you see stories that remind you of it.

The Dawn Wall was one.

This guy, Tommy Caldwell, who was captured by rebel forces in Krygzstan as a kid decided to climb this impossible route up El Captain on Yosemite national park.

A route no one has ever done.

He was obsessed with it his whole life.

Years of failing.

Trying again and again.

Pushing through all the failure and doubt.

The guy had a finger cut off and was told multiple times by people around him that he was done.

His career as a climber was over.

He said ‘Fuck that. I’ll show them.’

Boy did he ever.

But he didn’t do it alone.

He wanted to celebrate and do it with a friend.

As they started climbing, Tommy outclimbed his partner Kevin through one of the hardest routes on the wall, Pitch 15, and was miles ahead of him.

Then he decided to wait.

He decided to do everything in his power to support Kevin and celebrate with him at the top.

He chose his friend over his accomplishment.

What a beautiful man who achieved something incredible.

Human beings never fail to surprise me with their athletic achievements.

Sub 9.6 100m dash times, 17 minute breath holds, almost 2 hour marathons.

All accomplishments that once seemed impossible, yet somehow people have done it.

Goes to show if you put in the time and work on a dream for years, anything is possible.
