My reflections on getting broken up with for the first time

I got broken up with today:

I got broken up with today.

Interesting experience.

Went surprisingly well.

I have immense respect for the girl and who she is.

I liked her.

She didn’t feel the same way.

She wasn’t committed to a relationship.

She wanted to focus on herself.

Totally respect that.

It takes 2 to tango in a relationship and if both people aren’t committed, it won’t work.

I’m so grateful she told me early on.

I’d only been seeing her a few months.

But we vibed.

We had something, or at least I thought so.

Obviously, she didn’t feel the same and that’s ok.

I can’t do anything about that.

I cannot control someone’s decision.

If she’s not feeling it, all good.

It’s her loss in the end.

Move on.

What I love about who I’ve become is I feel so much better able to process this now.

All this self-work.

All the writing.

All the meditation.

All the reading.

You have to let things come and go.

If it doesn’t work, no worries. Move on.

No point in getting upset about it.

I obviously only saw this person for a few months but that’s nothing.

It’s so much worse if you’ve been with someone longer.

So I’m grateful she told me this early on.

Even though we had a respectful conversation, your subconscious always comes up.

It asks you stupid questions.

It puts the blame on you.

‘Did she really enjoy our experiences?’

‘Did I say something?’

‘Should I have done something different?’

‘Been more physical?’

You’ll never really know but it doesn’t matter.

Move on.

Go find the person who actually wants to be with you.

The one that looks forward to seeing you.

The one that cares about you.

The one that shows up for you and wants to be with you.

If you don’t feel that from the other person and someone is always more committed than the other, it’ll never work.

It has to be mutual.

You both have to be committed because if you’re not, it won’t work.

Better to know that earlier than later.

So thank you ‘person’ for breaking up with me.

I tried. I gave it my best shot. Didn’t work.

Cool.

Onto the next one.
