Night before the marathon:

Night before the marathon.

Excited.

Bit nervous.

Don’t think I’ll sleep well tonight even after taking melatonin.

Been training for months.

Checked my Strava app and run 242 miles/387 km this year in preparation.

Insane.

4 months ago, I never ran.

I’ve never run an organized race.

Trained for a few months back in 2020 before Covid shut everything down, but besides that, nothing.

And yet we’re here.

The night before running my 1st marathon.

Told so many people the last few weeks and most people’s initial reaction is shock.

The first question they usually ask is ‘so you’ve run races before?’

‘Nope’

‘Oh…’

*Silence*

‘Well Good luck!’

Thanks I guess.

These past few months have been interesting.

This has been my number 1 goal this year.

Everything came second.

Still been able to write 70 new blog posts and read almost 10 books, so not too bad.

But this has consumed my life.

Training 5 times a week isn’t easy, especially those long runs.

That sense of accomplishment you feel after doing it is so rewarding.

Never thought I’d be running multiple half-marathons during training.

The weirdest part is I’ve only run outside twice.

Twice since January.

Did all my training on a treadmill.

Imagine running stationary for 3 hours.

It’s weird.

Been a weird few months.

Regardless I made it.

No matter what happens tomorrow, enjoy it.

Don’t worry about the 4-hour time.

Hopefully you can make it, but no worries if not.

Completing a marathon is an accomplishment in itself.

Enjoy the experience.

The crowd.

The cheering.

The slip-ups.

The niggling pains.

The unforeseen circumstances.

The beautiful Toronto views.

Take it all in.

Don’t know if/when I’ll be running another one so enjoy this one.

You earned this.

Not many people run almost 400 km in their spare time while doing all the things you’re doing.

Keep it up.

Keep pushing.

Once this is done, rest, enjoy and on to the next project.

The journey never stops.

Can’t wait for tomorrow.

This one’s for you Kobe.

42 km, here I come.
