Reframe expectations:

Reframe expectations.

Keep them lower than you think.

People often will disappoint you.

But really it’s you disappointing yourself.

No one can live up to the expectations you set for them.

We have this problem with our parents.

Trying to please them and live the life they expected for us.

But that will never work.

You’ll never be able to live up to their expectation because it always changes.

Expectations change quickly.

In life, we mostly take a short-term view.

If things are going well, you assume they’re going to go well forever.

If things are going badly, you assume they’ll be bad forever.

No matter what, never get too up or too down.

Life is a cycle. For every good, there will be bad. For every bad, there will be good.

It’s your job to work through all of it.

Change your perspective by changing your expectations.

We are very bad judges of character. Malcolm Gladwell wrote about this in Talking to Strangers. Humans are terrible judges of people.

Amanda Knox was a prime example where many people, mostly due to the Italian media, thought she was this sexually aggressive murderer when really she was just a quiet person in a foreign country who didn’t know the language.

We assume we know who someone is based on what they say or how they act but humans are much more complicated than that.

People never live up to expectations so instead of expecting a lot from them, expect very little so you’ll never be disappointed.

Never assume the best and never assume the worst.

Reframe expectations and you’ll be much better off.
