Will you be remembered?

Will you be remembered?

The short answer is no.

The people close to you will remember you.

But the world?

It couldn't care less about you.

It’ll throw you to the side as soon as it’s done with you.

As soon as you’re not useful.

How many people do you come across in your life that you remember?

Not many.

But what makes them stand out?

What makes them different?

What makes them special?

I don’t know.

But there is something about them.

Something about their energy.

Their aura.

The way they carry themselves.

The things they do.

The stories they have.

The experiences they live.

There are some who stand out.

Stand out because they live great lives.

But also for other reasons.

Stand out because they are unapologetically themselves.

Still think about this girl I met at a party.

It was right after COVID when parties were just starting up.

Was invited by an old work friend.

Didn’t really want to show up.

Knew no one there.

But thought why not.

And there was this girl.

This girl from Kingston, Ontario.

She was a graphic designer.

Fun.

Bubbly.

High energy.

But the thing that made her special was this.

She loved bees.

Like obsessed.

Like she knew everything there is to know about bees.

Could tell you everything about the hive.

About different types of bees.

About the bee farms all over Ontario.

So much so that she volunteered on bee farms.

Said her dream was to manage bees one day.

It was amazing.

Weird.

But incredible.

This obsession.

This passion.

This curiosity.

For something bigger than herself.

She had no massive connection to them.

Other than she found them really fascinating.

So she dedicated hours and years of her life to learning about them.

That’s what made her special.

It wasn’t just something superficial.

It was more than that.

Too many people are boring.

Flat.

Say they like something.

But don’t really know why.

Watch the same things as everyone else.

Do the same things as everyone else.

Scroll on Instagram.

Watch videos on TikTok.

Keep up with the latest reality TV show.

Or what’s on at the movies.

But how many times do you meet someone different?

Someone random?

Someone obsessed with something you have never even thought about that makes you reconsider all of your passions?

Those people are rare.

They don’t come around very often.

But when they do, you remember.

You remember them.

Their stories.

The moments around the experience.

Some people can leave a mark.

Just with a half-hour conversation.

My goal is to be like that one day.

To make an impact.

To have people remember me.

Remember me for something I said.

Or did.

Or just watched me live my life and be inspired to change their own.

I’ve had friends tell me that.

Tell me how much my choices and decisions have affected them.

How they are better people because of me.

It’s amazing.

The best thing anyone could ask for.

All we hope one day is that the choices we make affect one person’s life positively.

My goal is obviously much more.

To leave a legacy.

To write.

To be the most prolific writer of a generation.

While also being the most interesting person you’ll ever meet.

It’s a lofty goal.

But that’s ok.

That’s the point.

To chase your dreams, however hard they may be.

And show people what is really possible in this life.

I’ve done so much.

And yet it feels like I’ve just started.

My only goal is this.

To hope that people at my funeral remember me.

Remember me for who I am.

For what I did.

For how I showed up.

For how I left a mark on their life.

However big or small.

That’s it.

That’s the goal.

To be remembered.
