People are noticing the rising costs:

People are noticing the rising costs.

For the first time this weekend, 3 separate people spoke about the rising cost of living.

Went to my grandparents to play cards and my grandma started talking.

‘Anish, have you seen the cost of groceries recently?’

‘A bag of potatoes that used to cost $3 now cost $7. A pack of tomatoes that used to cost $2 now costs $5.’

‘I’m so grateful we have your grandfather’s pension but if you’re an average family with kids, how are they supposed to afford these rising costs?’

Yup.

Drove with my uncle and he told me about the latest time he filled up gas.

(Side note: gas in my area is up to $2.00 a litre which I’ve never seen in my life).

He said ‘Anish, to fill up my gas tank used to cost me $120 a few weeks ago now costs me $200. Thank god I can afford this but if you’re an average family, that cost increase is insane.’

Yup.

Went to visit another uncle at his clothing store and he was telling me about the costs on his recent trip to India.

‘Anish, the cost of everything there is so much more expensive. What costs you in Canada is the same in India so it’s brutal for the poorest.’

Yup.

This is a global inflationary problem.

In the short term, it’s only going to get worse.

One of China’s biggest cities has been in lockdown for over a month.

Global supply chains were already an issue but now anything coming out of Asia is heavily delayed.

Fertilizer prices are skyrocketing.

The cost of food is rising.

This was the first instance I’ve noticed multiple elders in my life talk about the rising costs.

People are noticing the rising costs, and it’s won’t be better short term.

This is bad.

Something’s gonna break.
