Stand:

Stand.

What are you willing to stand for?

How far are you willing to go to stand up for what you believe in?

Would you risk your career?

Would you risk millions of dollars?

Would you risk relationships with friends?

Would you risk being an outcast?

All to stand up for what you believe in?

Most people won’t.

Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf is not most people.

Just finished ‘Stand’ about his story and it’s an incredible documentary. (link here)

The original Steph Curry.

The best player Shaq has said he’s ever seen play.

The person who first sat for the anthem.

Most people know Colin Kaepernick and what he did in 2016.

But they don’t know what Mahmoud did.

He sat for the anthem for months before a Denver radio host blew it up and he became the most hated man in America.

People thought, exactly like what Colin did, he was disrespecting America, the flag and the military.

But that’s not what he was doing.

He was using his freedom to shine light on an issue most people don’t understand.

Exactly what Kaepernick did.

So sad to think he was blackballed from the NBA and his career was destroyed.

He had the chance to be one of the best guards in the league during his era.

Yet he holds no bitterness.

He’s moved on.

He went broke, had his family destroyed, and his house set on fire.

And yet he persisted.

He stood for what he believed in.

So honorable.

An incredible role model for so many.

We need people like this to be celebrated.

History will be the judge, just like it was for Muhammad Ali and Colin Kapernick.

They stood for something bigger than themselves.

So what are you willing to stand for?
