What makes greatness?

What makes greatness?

How can one be great?

What does that even mean?

To be great?

To be considered the best.

Elite.

A cut above everyone else.

Greatness is achievement.

Success.

Doing what most consider impossible.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Many years of work.

Many years of effort.

Many years of achievement.

Kobe.

My GOAT.

He was great.

Why?

He did it over a long time.

Anyone can be great for one year.

But how many can be great for decades?

Not just another basketball player.

But elite.

Top of the game.

Top of the sport.

It took work.

Lots of it.

Especially when no one was watching.

Hours of practice.

Hours of silence.

Hours of loneliness.

Just him and a ball.

Relentless dedication.

Relentless determination.

Relentless commitment.

Even when he won.

That’s the hardest.

When you hit the mountain top.

When you first achieve.

Most people take that.

And coast off that the rest of their lives.

But the greats know.

That’s just the beginning.

That’s just the starting line.

Congratulations.

You’ve now just entered the arena.

But can you last?

Can you keep doing it?

Keep showing up?

Even when your back’s against the wall?

Even when you suffer?

Even when you fail?

Even when everyone around you is doubting you?

Even when you doubt yourself?

Can you still do it?

Still commit?

Still work?

That’s what makes someone great.

The self-belief.

The confidence.

The internal ego.

The commitment to showing up no matter what.

Being great is hard.

It’s not for the weak.

99.9% of people will never get there.

They’ll quit along the way.

It’ll get too hard.

But the greats know.

They understand.

It never ends.

It’s with you till death.

The relentless drive.

The competitive edge.

The desire to be the best.

The sacrifice of other parts of your life.

That’s what makes greatness.

So do you want to be great?

I do.
